As we approach Yom Kippur, it’s natural to turn inward with self-criticism, measuring ourselves against who we hoped to be. But the words of the holy Rav Tzadok HaKohen, “K’sheim Shetzarich” — that just as we must believe in Hashem, we must also believe in ourselves — remind us that true growth doesn’t come from tearing ourselves down, but from recognizing the greatness within. Hashem already sees our potential in its fullest light. Our job is to believe in it too.

Just as one must believe in the greatness of Hashem, so too one must believe in the greatness of himself. For his soul comes from the Source of life.
