Colel Chabad has released the third installment of Nafshi Live, the music video series highlighting the niggunim sung at the annual Nafshi events. This release features acclaimed singer Alex Clare, performing the soulful niggun Kol Dodi.
Released on Chai Elul, the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Chassidic movement, and the Alter Rebbe, founder of Chabad Chassidus and of Colel Chabad. The Alter Rebbe also composed this very Niggun, Kol Dodi. The melody captures the essence of Elul, the month when Hashem lovingly calls to each of us: “פתחי לי אחותי רעייתי יונתי תמתי – Open for Me, My sister, My beloved, My dove, My perfect one” (Shir HaShirim 5:2).
This is the message of Elul. The Alter Rebbe described this time as “HaMelech BaSadeh” – the King is in the field. Unlike the awe and distance we feel when the King is in His palace, during Elul the King comes out to the simple fields where His people are. He smiles, He greets us with warmth, and He invites us to approach Him just as we are. Kol Dodi gives voice to this closeness, expressing the theme of Elul: “Ani LeDodi VeDodi Li – I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.”
Nafshi is the premier Yud Tes Kislev event, arranged annually by Colel Chabad in honor of the Alter Rebbe. Yud Tes Kislev marks the day of his release from prison, known as the Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus. As the institution he established, Colel Chabad continues to lead in its mission, providing food, medical, and social assistance to those in need while spreading the light of Chassidus.
Founded in 1788, Colel Chabad is the oldest continuous tzedakah organization in Israel, serving thousands daily with meals, food security programs, orphan support, medical aid, and crisis relief.
