The Holy Zohar in Parshas Pinchos recounts a fascinating exchange where Rebbe Abba asked Reb Shimon Bar Yochai: Why is it that the nations of the world do not shukle? Why do only Jews sway back and forth when they pray and learn Torah?

Reb Shimon revealed that this movement reflects something profoundly spiritual. When a Yid learns Torah or davens, their neshama, which is a direct part of Hashem, comes alive. The verse says, “Ner Hashem Nishmas Adam,” the soul of man is the flame of Hashem. Just as a flame constantly flickers and leaps upward, yearning to connect to something higher, so too the neshama is always striving, always seeking to connect to Hashem.

Our neshama is on fire. This Chanukah, as we release the Upmix, we are reminded that every mitzvah we do adds more oil to that flame, increasing the light of our neshama and allowing it to burn brighter in a world that desperately needs its light.
